AS career changes go, Lynda Howarth has made a serious change.
The mother-of-two swapped her executive job as a director-partner in a recruitment consultancy to set up an ironing service.
Just over a year on, Lynda, from Moorside, has spread her wings by taking on her first premises in Hollins Road, Hollins, where she has fully established Full Steam Ahead.
The business offers a full ironing service, including collection and delivery, and since the move to Hollins Road she has also started a dry cleaning operation.
Lynda, who has invested about £10,000 in establishing Full Steam Ahead in premises formerly occupied by a teeth-whitening business, said: “I had simply had enough of chasing round in a car to all the regional offices of the business.
“I was in the recruitment industry for 19 years, and it was exciting and rewarding, but I just felt that enough was enough. I started doing ironing from home and now feel I have enough business to set up in my own premises.”
With help from her mum, Lynda manages to open up from 8am, get her two youngsters to school and then run the new enterprise. She has installed two ironing presses and is already planning leaflet drops to promote awareness of a service she describes as essential to lots of busy people.
