OLDHAM company Broughton Controls has designed and built a unique and innovative high-security anti-terrorist automatic gate which has been recognised at the Security Excellence Awards.
Designed at the company’s Higginshaw Lane, Royton, headquarters, and tested by the Government at the Transport Research Laboratory, the gate withstood the impact of a 7.5 tonne vehicle driven at 80kph (50mph).
The VeeGate successfully withstood this simulated terrorist attack and once the vehicle wreckage was removed, continued to operate as normal, reported market director Barry Dickman.
This resulted in the VeeGate achieving a Government classification to the new PAS 68 standard, a standard which is now becoming recognised throughout the world and the Veegate has since been declared the “Best Security Innovation” at a prestige international security event.
Additionally, the VeeGate has been placed on the list of certified equipment by the US state department.
This unique achievement for a British company enables the VeeGate to be specified for use throughout American Government and military establishments.
Broughton Controls. which is also recognised as a leader in the design and installation of stadium turnstiles, has won the contract to supply a new 50,000 capacity sports ground in Dublin.
The business fought off stiff competition from around the world to capture work at the prestige new Lansdowne Road all seater international stadium for Irish rugby and football.
Mr Dickman told Chronicle Business: “This is not only good news for Broughton Controls but for many local suppliers that Broughton Controls supports. For many years we have grown and established a worldwide reputation for the design and installation of stadium turnstiles.”
Equipment designed, manufactured and installed by Broughton Controls is in use at the stadiums of Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Olympiakos among many.
