SPECIALIST medical and sports healthcare group Mobilis Healthcare has been bought by Nottinghamshire-based Homecraft Rolyan.

Mobilis, of Shaw Road, Oldham, has become a success story in the last decade, having grown out of the original business, Medipost.

Colin Webb, the chief executive officer of Mobilis Healthcare, said: “Homecraft is a highly successful company and there are obvious synergies between the two businesses that make them a good fit.

“Its extensive global distribution network should certainly enable us to develop international sales of our key brands.”

Homecraft is the country’s leading supplier of living aids, therapy and paediatric products to hospitals, local authorities and retailers.

Based in Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire, Homecraft Rolyan is a long-established company with a strong presence in the rehabilitation and occupational therapy markets.

It has annual sales of around £28 million, with export business representing almost a third of turnover.

Homecraft is a wholly-owned business of Patterson Companies Inc, a publicly-quoted US corporation serving the dental, veterinary and medical markets, with annual sales approaching $3 billion.

This is its first European acquisition since establishing its Patterson Medical business in 2003, paving the way for further expansion into the international rehabilitation supplies and equipment market.

Among the consumer brands Homecraft Rolyan distributes is the Tanni&Anni range of adaptive clothing, created by Dame Tanni Grey Thompson, Britain’s most successful paralympic athlete.

“Mobilis Healthcare gives Homecraft and the Patterson Medical division a bigger footprint in the European physio, podiatry and sports sectors, as well as the rehabilitation market generally,” says David Amson, managing director of Homecraft Rolyan.
