Healthy reward for care home workers

A MOORSIDE care home has been recognised for its commitment to employee health and well-being in the workplace by receiving a prestigious Healthy Workplace award from healthplan provider HealthSure.

St George’s Care Centre, in Northgate Lane, scooped the accolade after implementing a new company-paid HealthSure Health Cash Plan to ensure its team has access to everyday essential healthcare treatments.

All of St George’s 140 employees, including the nursing and care staff, ancillary and administrative teams, who have been with the company for at least a year are covered by the HealthSure Health Cash Plan.

The policy means that staff are now able to claim money towards a range of important health treatments and checks such as an eye test or new glasses from the optician, a check-up or filling at the dentist, physiotherapy and relaxing complementary therapies including acupuncture and reflexology.

A confidential 24-hour helpline is also included in the policy.

The plan was introduced because of the chiropody, physiotherapy and complementary therapies covered by the HealthSure plan.

Manager Julia Hamilton said: “The nursing and care staff are on their feet all day so we wanted to be able to offer them treatment that could help relieve the day’s aches and pains.

“We are delighted to be recognised in this way by HealthSure.

“Our staff are the lifeblood of our business so we wanted to reward them for their hard work and commitment to the care of our residents by helping them look after themselves.”

As part of the award, St George’s Care Centre now has a Healthy Workplace plaque and certificate to display proudly in its reception.
