BULKY Bob’s, which collects and recycles bulky household waste like furniture and white goods in Oldham, Liverpool and Warrington, is in line for an award.
Social business FRC Group, of which Bulky Bob’s is a part, has been placed in the finals of the National Training Awards 2008.
The FRC Group’s people and learning team leader Collette Dunning said: “FRC Group is a pioneering group of social businesses with a track record of innovation and success.”
Driving Change is a training scheme which prepares the long-term unemployed for work in the logistics industry.
The programme helps trainees gain LGV Class Two Driving and Fork Lift Truck licences, as well as giving them an understanding of health and safety and the skills required in communication and teamwork.
“The project has helped meet the needs of long-term unemployed people and the business, and addressed a skills shortage within the logistics industry.
“People who have been jobless for at least 12 months and are interested in a career in logistics can join the scheme.
“They must be committed to changing their futures and personal development.
“Typically they will have low confidence, especially in a work environment, and could improve their team working and communications skills.
“They may or may not have a car driving licence,” adds Collette.
The programme includes help to gain a driving licence and gives all trainees 12-months’ paid work experience.
