AN Oldham businessman has transformed a once-notorious Mossley pub into a family-friendly venue.
Kevin Smith, the managing director of Megatrack, Royton, has spent around £800,000 transforming the former George Hotel, in Arundel Street, top Mossley — which gained notoriety when it operated as the American Bar — into a wine bar with food, an internet cafe and children’s play areas.
Above the former pub are apartments. The new venue, which opens between 8am and 8pm is run by manager Jade Jones and assistant Jodie Chui, both from Lees.
