Firm eyes star prize for safety
AN Oldham-based steeplejack specialist company has been shortlisted for a Silver Helmet Award for Safety.
This award is the most prestigious in construction and after being included in the final seven, Delta International Steeplejacks (DSJ) is optimistic it will be rewarded for its efforts.
Presented by Contract Journal, the award recognises and rewards a company deemed to have made the most significant contribution to the improvement of safety in the UK’s construction and civil engineering industry.
Speaking from the Wrigley Street, off Greenacres Road, headquarters, managing director Robert Bird said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted.
“It has always been our core belief that continual investment in improving health and safety standards will not only improve the company’s efficiency but ultimately save the customer money, too.”
Mr Bird has twice been elected President of ATLAS, the Steeplejack and Lightning Protection Association, he sits on the Safety Access Committee and regularly sits on British Standard Working Committees pushing innovation and new standards in the industry.
Established in 1977, DSJ has been one of the most committed and active member companies in the Steeplejack Federation, driving innovation and new standards in the industry through close consultation with fellow members, employees and partners.
“In the steeplejack industry there are challenges aplenty.
“Time is money and delays can result in huge losses to all parties, so ensuring that a working environment is as safe as possible creates a win-win situation for everyone,” added Mr Bird.
