Businesswoman of the year

THE chief executive of The Christie has been named Manchester businesswoman of the year.
Caroline Shaw heads the hospital, which is due to open a £17 million radiotherapy unit in Oldham in the New Year, and has already won awards for her meteoric rise from midwife to chief executive.
She has held the post since 2005, and beat off strong competition to take the title in the Crain’s Manchester Business awards.
She was applauded for her drive which has helped transform treatment and care for cancer patients.
