AN Oldham business woman has acquired the distribution rights to a PC-based tax system that aims to save money and at the same time significantly cut tax bills.

Beverly McGrath, from Lees, is also hoping to build a local workforce and is looking to recruit sales advisers.

She is convinced that MrTax CD will help thousands of people locally, saying: “I am self-employed myself and this system has saved me £1,000 compared with using an accountant.”

The brainchild of a former senior inspector of taxes, MrTax CD claims to be so simple only very basic computer knowledge is needed. MrTax CD provides instant tax-saving help on what can and cannot be claimed.

A mortgage and insurance adviser for the past five years, Beverly said small traders miss out every year on thousands of pounds of legitimate tax relief, adding: “For instance, are you claiming for your computer and broadband, all your HP, loan and bank charges, even incidental expenses such as car or van wash? Receipts are not always necessary if the expense is deemed reasonable.”

Pointing out that that HMRC have introduced a new regime of tough fines and penalties, Beverly said: “Ignore tax at your peril. Getting your tax return in on time will allow you to negotiate time to pay in line with government measures to help small businesses.”

Companies can be fined up to £3,000 for not keeping good records and up to £60 per day for ignoring the tax authorities.

Penalties for careless or deliberate acts of tax understating can be 30, 70 or even 100 per cent of the tax due.

Beverly said: “My advice to anyone who is currently worrying about tax is to take control of their own destinyt. No one knows your business better than you and being able to understand your tax and legally keep it to a minimum is the right of every taxpayer.”
