Young Entrepreneur

Anjub Ali/Sulaiman Mirza, Mirzali Architecture

BUSINESS partners Anjub Ali and Sulaiman Mirza have a social conscience as well as an entrepreneurial eye.

They are confident that this combination will prove to be a success for Mirzali Architecture, based at Marfot House, 98 Featherstall Road, Oldham.

Trading since November, 2008, Anjub (26) and Sulaiman (28) manage Mirzali on a day-to-day basis and are currently overseeing a charity clinic development in Bangladesh.

Jahed Miah, Web Fusion Studios

FOUNDER Jahed Miah is convinced that his business will become a source of pride for the Oldham business community.

As well as being the sole owner of the business at 51 Featherstall Road North, Oldham, Jahed is the senior design consultant at the web site design and hosting service he established as a trading entity in January, 2009.

By making full use of the digital technology, the business is able to operate throughout a bigger geography than the Coldhurst ward which is the current headquarters.

Jahed has what he calls ‘very ambitious and visionary growth’.

Kylie Clegg, Unique Hair Studio, Royton

AMBITIOUS Kylie Clegg always wanted to run her own salon — so she charmed her aunt Dawn Boswell to join the project.

The partners then persuaded Dawn’s husband Shane to relinquish his training suite on the groundfloor of premises in Rochdale Road, Royton.

They opened the doors of Unique Hair Studio in November last year. Kylie make some tough choices of staff, insisting throughout the recruiting process that the stylists must be of the highest standard.

Kylie’s dedication and enthusiasm and her aspirations to excel in her field is to be admired.

New Knowledge Exchange award

University Campus Oldham is sponsoring a new award — the Knowledge Exchange Partnership — and, from a long list of partners, the One Oldham Business Awards Steering Group has created a shortlist of three from which a winner will be chosen.

Matt Howarth

MATT has pulled out all the stops to create a dynamic partnership with the Digital Journalism team at University Campus Oldham.

He has made an outstanding contribution to enriching the teaching and learning of multi-platform journalism and has provided work placements, internships and practical help and advice about creating content for websites.

Working with a team of talented university students, Matt’s web design company, Virtual Construction, in Failsworth, is constantly challenged by new thinking. This is a true Knowledge Exchange Partnership in action.

Nick McGilvray

WHEN asked about how students from University Campus Oldham could gain an insight into his profession, Nick responded by opening up his workplace to a group of architectural technology and interior designs students.

Nick’s team at the Hollinwood Business Centre, worked with the students to give them a feel for the projects they were working on, and their own career paths, and the session ended with a buffet lunch and networking opportunities. Such was the success of the event that this will now become an annual feature of the course.

TWB Architects is sponsoring an annual award in the form of a one-year paid placement as a trainee architectural technologist.

Jacquie Wood

Jacquie has worked closely with the University of Huddersfield to make available to the NHS a well-established programme of professional development through the School of Human and Health Sciences.

The partnership between the University Campus and NHS Oldham requires a lot of dedication from both partners, and Jacquie has demonstrated a high level of professionalism and commitment and a series of pilot courses and workshops for health professionals is now under way.
