TWO senior managers from Howarth Timber and Building Supplies in Oldham are on the trip of a lifetime helping make wishes come true for children with life-threatening illnesses.
Mark Terry and Jason Rothwell, who are part of the management team at the Howarth depot in Shaw Road, are currently walking the equivalent of a marathon for each of six days, trekking across the Great Wall of China from Huangyaguan to Juyongguan.
The pair hope to raise several thousand pounds for When You Wish Upon a Star, a UK charity that helps sick children’s dreams become reality.
The venture is part of Howarth Timber and Building Supplies’ adoption of the charity.
Mark said: “So far we’ve topped £6,000 for the walk alone, and donations from Howarth’s customers and suppliers and our family and friends are still coming in.
“Howarth as a business has promised to add the equivalent of our salaries to the total, which will give a final boost to the bottom line.”
Jason added: “My son has a disability so I know at first hand the joy that can be experienced by young people who, through a twist of fate, face many unique challenges every day with great courage.”
