AN Oldham garage specialising in diagnostics is one of four Oldham businesses to have won a Swift Award in a national campaign to find the best local automotive businesses across the UK.

S and P Lomas, in Dunkerley Street, Greenacres, and three other businesses were chosen following a rigorous judging review which assessed a short-list of more than 50 companies and retailers across the area.

The tough criteria investigated how each business sets prices, resolves complaints, retains loyal customers and exceeds expectations.

All four firms will now be featured on www.SwiftRelief.co.uk, a unique online directory that gathers together Britain’s best local businesses, created by motor insurer swiftcover.com.

The other 2010 Oldham winners are:

::Drivetime UK — a driving school, Prince Edward Avenue, Greenacres.

::Royle Security — security systems providers, Warrington Street, Lees.

::Shaw Autopoint Ltd — a full service garage, Milnrow Road, Shaw.

S and P Lomas, which impressed the judges with its customer-focused approach to business, provides a range of services, including local collection and delivery and works on all makes of cars.

Manager Steve Lomas said: “We set ourselves high standards and always make sure that customers leave happy.

“People in Oldham have been coming to us for over 20 years, so we know we must be doing something right.”

Tina Shortle, marketing director at the online insurance company, said: “Organisations like garages rarely win awards, despite being vital businesses within the community.

“But uncovering hidden gems in Oldham and around the country is what the Swift Awards are all about.”

The organisers of the Swift Awards are calling on more businesses from Oldham to put themselves forward for the scheme.

To be considered for the award, businesses can either nominate themselves or encourage customers to nominate them via the official awards site www.swiftrelief.co.uk.

Nominated businesses are assessed by an independent panel of judges and a team of mystery shoppers. There is no fee to enter.
