Management at G&G Carpet Warehouse and Bed Centre in Lees are to sponsor Oldham rugby league coach Tony Benson.
Staff at the family business have been so impressed with what the Kiwi has achieved so far that they are to sponsor him in a partnership which includes advertising and promotional events at the Roughyeds’ new home, the Whitebank Stadium.
G&G proprietor Gary Smith has run the carpet showrooms in Lees for the past 12 years and in a joint venture with his wife Joanne he has now extended the business and opened the bed centre on the same village-centre site.
General manager Bob Marsden, Gary’s brother-in-law, played for Oldham, and his son, Ben, also a rugby league forward, has followed in father’s footsteps by signing for the Roughyeds.
Says Bob: “I’m excited by everything the club is doing on and off the field and their move to Whitebank is a fantastic development.”
Tony said: “I’m proud to have the backing of G&G and proud to know that a local family-owned firm with its roots in the community is prepared to get behind the club in this way.”
