GLYN Williams, widely acknowledged as the finest euphonium player in the brass band world, has taken on his first member of staff at his fledgling musical business . . . his wife Helen.

Now firmly established in Saddleworth, the acknowledged spiritual home of brass bands, Glyn Williams Musical Instruments has relocated from Delph to the Tanner Business Centre at Waterside Mills, Greenfield.

The business, a specialist supplier of bespoke instruments, alongside accessories and other industry-related products, has been trading for three years.

Success meant that Glyn (34) had to find larger premises. He is now settling into his new surroundings.

Helen, herself a top flugel horn player, will run the increasingly busy administration side of the company from the office.

After running the business by himself, Glyn decided it was now time to find someone to help with the workload.

Helen has worked for the last four years with Oldham Music Service as a brass — and sometimes woodwind and curriculum peripatetic — teacher, but has an administrative background having spent 12 years with the Civil Service.

“Her administration, organisational skills and knowledge of the brass band movement made her an easy choice,” said Glyn, who is spending an increasing amount of time with customers at the Bedford headquarters of instrument manufacturer Sterling.

Glyn’s reputation gives his business a unique selling perspective in that players have a personal consultation and are accompanied to the manufacturer by the man himself.
