Royal reward for enterprise

THE Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester has formally presented the Queen’s Award for Enterprise to Delph company Applied Language Solutions.

The company, established by Greenfield man Gavin Wheeldon in 2003, was recognised in the presitigious Queen’s Awards in 2010.

Lord Lieutenant Warren J Smith visited the company headquarters at Riverside Court, Huddersfield Road, Delph, with the Mayor and Mayoress of Oldham, Councillor David Jones and Mrs Jean Jones, to mark the occasion.

The translation and interpretation company was started in a bedroom and now employs 120 people at offices around the world.

A Queen’s Award for Enterprise is the highest accolade that can be bestowed on a UK business, recognising the company’s growth into an international organisation covering 91 countries and boasting customers such as Nike, Google, Caterpillar and the United Nations.

Speaking at the time of the award, Mr Wheeldon told the Chronicle: “We are thrilled to have won this award which brings a huge amount of credibility to our business due to its prestige.

“This is particularly important to us as we operate in a highly-competitive, global market and an award such as this is recognised as a sign of quality and professionalism across the world.”
