HE has tasted success managing hotels across the world, but the latest honour is a career peak for one former Royton and Crompton pupil.
Graham Bamford (59) has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of West London for his contribution to the hospitality industry.
His long and distinguished career as one of the most respected hoteliers was toasted as he was presented with the title at the London School of Hospitality and Tourism’s prize-giving ceremony.
Graham’s role as general manager of the plush Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington is a million miles away from his early days as a schoolboy in Royton. He then studied at college in Ashton and at the University of Manchester before going on to manage hotels in London, Singapore and Indonesia.
He said: “To be recognised by my peers is very flattering.
“I have been lucky to work in some amazing places and properties and this is a magnificent personal achievement.”
Head of School, Professor David Foskett, paid tribute to Graham who was born and raised in Milnrow.
He said: “He is an outstanding professional and icon who has given so much to the industry.
“Graham is highly-regarded as one of the outstanding general managers of five-star properties in the world.”
