Waxing lyrical about ear care
Date published: 25 May 2011
AN Oldham man has become one of only 16 people in the country to be certified with a diploma in clinical ear care.
Stephen Grundy, a hearing aid audiologist, has a business in Retiro Street, Oldham, which he opened 12 months ago to offer a hearing aid service.
Through the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists, Mr Grundy has completed a registered course which allows him to remove excess ear wax from client’s ears.
“Obtaining the diploma is something of a rarity in the industry,” he said.
With NHS waiting-times locally for ear syringing appointments running at anything from four to seven weeks, Mr Grundy, who is beginning to receive GP referrals, believes this is a service that is needed in the community.
The practice has also invested in a video otoscope, a high resolution, digital camera which gives a very clear view of what is happening in the ear canal.
