TWO Oldham brothers are in line for prizes at the English Curry Awards in Manchester on Monday.
Wasim Aslam, from Coppice, who runs Cafe Lahore in Union Street, Oldham, has been shortlisted in the Team of the Year category and his brother Nahim, who has run the award-winning Indian Ocean in Ashton for 20 years, has been put forward in the Restaurant of the Year sector for the North-West.
Nahim, also from Coppice, is up against another Oldham restaurant, The Blue Tiffin in Higginshaw, owned by Lupin Choudhry.
Wasim, who has been operating Cafe Lahore for eight years, faces stiff competition from four restaurants representing Manchester, Leicester, Berkshire and London. He said: “It’s great that both our restaurants have been nominated — we’re obviously hoping for a double success but there is also some rivalry, too!”
Organised by the hungryhouse.co.uk website, the English Curry Awards follow in the footsteps of the well-established version in Scotland. The website invited customers to make nominations.
The ceremony will be attended by 850 finalists and guests at the Sheridan Suite in Newton Heath.
