AN Oldham business has been honoured at three national award ceremonies.

The Jordon Group, formerly known as E Jordon (Refrigeration) Ltd, is a family-run business established in 1965 specialising in shopfitting, refrigeration and air conditioning and serving a national customer base from its head office in Quebec Street, Westwood.

Jordon Group clients have been recognised at the glamorous Retail Industry Awards held at The Park Plaza Hotel, London, shortlisted for an RAC Cooling Industry Award and swept the board at the Forecourt Trader of the Year 2011 Awards, both of which were held at the Hilton Park Lane Hotel London on separate evenings.

The Jordon Group’s shopfitting developments helped win eight awards at the Forecourt Trader event.

Euro Garages were the overall winners, winning five awards including the most prestigious award of the evening, the Forecourt Trader of the Year for its Beehive Service Station in Blackburn.

Other Jordon development clients who collected awards were: Best Tobacco Retailer: Farook Valli, BP St Chads Service Station and Spar, Leeds; Best Crisps and Snacks Outlet: Srithar Sivalingam, BP Connect, Milton Regis, Kent; Best Site Manager, also Srithar Sivalingam.

“The Forecourt Trader of the Year Awards are the showcase for the petrol retailing industry — recognising and rewarding those businesses at the leading edge of their profession that continue to thrive in an increasingly competitive world.

“Congratulations to Mohsin and Zuber at Euro Garages and to the other award winners. We wish you all the very best for continued success and prosperity in the future,” said Jordon Group managing director Paul Jordon.

Now entering their 16th year, the Retail Industry Awards remain the only awards of their kind where the whole industry gets together to celebrate everyone from the smallest independent retailers to the largest supermarket groups.

The Jordon Group saw one of their developments — Malcolm’s Store Costcutter in Coventry — win the prestigious award Independent Retailer of the Year 2011. A joint collaboration with Euro Garages and a new development at Bolton West/Rivington Services on the M61 went head-to-head with supermarket giants such as Sainsbury’s, Asda, Marks and Spencer and Harrods in the End User of the Year category at the RAC Cooling Industry event.

Mr Jordon said: “The services were in very poor repair due to a fire on the southbound site in 2010.”

The modern site now includes restaurants, a new forecourt, convenience store, games area, toilet, changing facilities and prayer room featuring a Burger King, Starbucks, Greggs, Spa and a BP station.

He added: “The Jordon Group was the exclusive developer of this huge project. As the two sites are identical we had the perfect opportunity to install two different types of refrigeration equipment to compare energy consumption in a real-life situation.

“This allowed us to measure the energy consumption where others only simulate the operating conditions.”
