Sky’s the limit for vehicle speed limiters

Date published: 25 May 2012

AN Oldham business was hoping to win huge orders in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates this week during the Automechanika Show, the world’s leading trade fair for the automobile sector.

Autokontrol Ltd manufactures speed limiters which control the top speeds of commercial vehicles, buses, coaches, cars and vans at its headquarters in Quantum House, Salmon Fields, Royton.

As well as enjoying huge success in the UK, Autokontrol systems can be found worldwide on everything from bread vans in Jamaica to quad bikes in Canada, with more than 250,000 units sold to more than 40 countries.

Marketing director Ron Tagg travelled to Automechanika with UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) — a Government body promoting overseas trade — where he met bus operators, manufacturers and distributors, ahead of the introduction of new legal requirements requiring all school buses and mini-buses to install approved speed limiters by the end of the year. He is targeting potential new business worth up to £6 million.

Having traded in the UAE for more than 20 years, Autokontrol is well placed to win business at the prestigious trade fair.
