OLDHAM and Manchester have the highest proportion of public sector workers in the Greater Manchester region — and Oldham and Tameside have the lowest proportions of identified growth sector employment.
This data has emerged in a report by the Business Growth Hub, which joined lbusiness data analysts Experian to create a “business performance map” of Greater Manchester’s 10 boroughs.
The survey found that, while Manchester, Salford and Trafford remain the region’s most popular locations for growing businesses, the North of the city is fighting back.
Rochdale has largest proportion of small firms with identified growth characteristics and the highest number of exporters and export potential.
Oldham is 61st in the UK export table, and also does well in terms of the number of business champions, listed at 75.
