University aid helps Quantum take a leap

AN Oldham manufacturing business has worked closely with the University of Cambridge to improve business performance.
Quantum Profile Systems Ltd, based at Salmon Fields, Royton, has more than 40 years experience in the extrusion of rigid and flexible PVC.
The company was bought out by its management in 2000 and now employs 60 people, selling its specialist building products nationwide under several brand names.
Faced with difficult market conditions since 2008, the management team had to focus on the day-to-day issues such as cash flow and stock control.
Working with the regional Manufacturing Advisory Service provided some solutions, but managers recognised the need for a longer-term strategy.
They called in IfM Education and Consultancy Services (IfM ECS) from Cambridge to assess the business and its potential.
The Cambridge team identified Quantum’s marketing weakness in two low-growth areas and developed a medium-term business plan.
The expected impact is an achievement of sales growth without too great an increase in overheads.
