AN Oldham company is setting new standards in the renewable energy industry.

Constructive Renewables Ltd is the sister business of Constructive Contracting Ltd, established in 1989 by Uppermill man David Ashton to offer traditional building services. Two completed projects include housing in Salem and improvements to St Edward’s Church, Lees.

The renewables business, in Terrace Street, off Lees Road, has just installed two biomass energy units at hotels in Eastbourne and Torquay. Two 40ft cabins were fitted out to hold boilers, ancillary parts and a 20 tonne wood pellet fuel store.

The company has also been involved in making a video about the benefits of wood as a fuel - namely bills reducd by up to 60 per cent, a much-reduced carbon footprint and guaranteed, RPI-linked income for 20 years from the government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme.

Business development manager Shawn Duckett (27), from Littleborough said: “The benefits add up to be substantially better than solar ever was. Some of our clients make and save more than £40,000 a year.”

Such has been the success of the RHI, the company can often install a new biomass system free in some residential care homes, hotels and even industrial premises.

In return for footing the capital costs, investors receive the government incentive for 20 years and the user gets a lower heating bill.

Shawn added: “We are the only company in Oldham with the facilities, expertise and backing to do this kind of installation. People need to be made more aware of the environmental and financial benefits of from the RHI scheme.”
