A company that delivers military-style fitness to local schools is now working with academics from the University of Swansea.
Commando Joes is helping children across the region to boost achievement at school; the collaboration with the university aims to show the effect its work has had on pupil attainment, behaviour and attendance.
Founded by director Mike Hamilton, from Failsworth, in 2009, the business is backed by Grasscroft man Terry Flanagan.
After eight years in the British Army, Mike believed there was a need for a fun fitness programme for schools to engage pupils.
Backed by the Department for Education, the company has enjoyed great success in more than 50 schools and is now branching out across the UK.
Currently employing 22 instructors, the business has relocated to a large unit in Leigh to meet expansion plans.
Mike said: “We take pride in sharing best practice with others and we want to celebrate the impact the company has had on the young people we have worked with. Our mission is to improve physical fitness and to ensure they reach their full potential in the classroom.”
