Matalan’s new store almost ready

OLDHAM’S new Matalan store is nearing completion on the Alexandra Retail Park.

Plans are proceeding to breathe new life into a rundown area - one of Oldham’s first retail parks, home to the old Matalan store and the recently closed Benson’s Beds and Topps Tiles. The remaining units had been empty for some time.

The site was bought by Sale-based Brookhouse Properties, which has demolished the old units and will fill it with new shops - the new Matalan, due to open in the next few weeks, being the first.

The clothing and homeware chain will relocate to the new 40,000 sq ft store on the site. Other big names have also shown an interest.
