PLANS for the Manchester city-region to have an elected mayor have been welcomed by the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce.
Director of policy and communications Chris Fletcher said: “Greater Manchester getting an elected mayor plus greater local control over transport, housing, planning and policing is a genuine game changer for business and residents.”
The Chamber believes many businesses have been frustrated by decisions made in London with little if any input that reflected their views.
Said Chris: “This is an issue that sits at the heart of the Chamber’s Campaign for Business, which states the major issues businesses want to have addressed before the next election. The announcement seems to have gone some way in addressing these concerns.”
Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce is the largest in the UK with more than 5,000 members.
