FIGURES from Oldham’s sport, music and hospitality scenes helped businessman Alan Nield officially open a new Screwfix trade and DIY store.
Mr Nield - better known as “Big Al” - is also a Revolution Radio presenter at weekends and got rugby league star Barrie McDermott, Inspiral Carpets musician and DJ Clint Boon and MasterChef champion Simon Wood were among a team of well-wishers who attended the event at Screwfix’s new Royton branch on Laurel Trading Estate. Other guests included the Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Ateeque Ur-Rehman.
The Royton outlet began trading just before Christmas and its official opening was linked to a series of promotional events and a competition.
Mr Nield said: “It was great to have support from all our guests today. We have high hopes for the new branch.
