The English Democrats have announced that Stephen Morris, the party’s North-West chairman, is their candidate for the Oldham East and Saddleworth by-election.
Mr Morris (44) is married with three children and has worked for Metrolink in Manchester for 10 years. He has been a branch official for the Unite union for the past eight years, covering the transport sector.
He became involved with local politics when he took an active part in the fight against road tolls.
He said: “We can no longer stand on the sidelines while successive governments take billions of pounds from English taxpayers and give it to other countries while our own services suffer. It’s time for the people of England to stand up and demand the services they should expect for the amount of money this government takes off us in tax.”
