Asda store in Shaw
ASDA has apologised to customers after a problem with its card machines caused chaos at the tills.
Stores across the country were affected yesterday when its card readers broke down.
Long queues built up as people were asked to use cash, with trollies and baskets dumped in the aisles and ATM machines outside running out of money.
One shopper at Asda in Shaw described it as "havoc" adding: "The store was packed when an announcement went out to say they could not accept card payments and were asking people to pay by cash.
"However, the staff were very good and kept a cool head."
