THE Failsworth crest which sits in the gardens near the historic Pole landmark has been subjected to criminal damage.
A resident highlighted the plight of the coat of arms, which is usually situated in the centre of several benches in the Pole Lane gardens.
The circular bronze plaque is currently in the possession of Oldham Council who will replace it at a future date.
An Oldham Council spokesman said: "A group of youths were spotted by a member of public pulling out the crest that is in the garden.
"The man told the young people to get away, recovered the crest himself and took it away for safekeeping.
"He took it to the council offices and raised the issue about a month ago.
"It is currently with our environmental services and is due to be installed at some time soon."
