New M&S store 'will be built'

THE council is confident that Oldham's planned Marks & Spencer store will go ahead - despite this week's announcement that the chain would would close 30 of its department stores and convert dozens more into food shops.
Planning permission was granted in December 2014 for the store at the new Prince's Gate retail and housing development at Mumps.
Council leader Jean Stretton confirmed tenders for the work were due to be returned to the council shortly. Construction is set to start in September 2017 with the store opening in 2018.
She added: "We do not believe that Marks & Spencer's announcement of store closures will have an impact on Prince's Gate."
