RESIDENTS were evacuated from their homes after a fire broke out in a block of flats close to Oldham Town Centre on Saturday night.
Fire crews from Oldham, Hollins and Chadderton were called to Crossbank House, off Manchester Road, shortly after 10pm to reports of a fire in a flat.
Firefighters discovered the blaze in the bedroom of a flat on the 9th floor.
A total of 16 firefighters were needed to bring the fire under control and keep it isolated within the flat, spending over three-and-a-half hours at the incident.
The flat, which was empty at the time of the fire, suffered significant damage, with smoke also affecting hallways. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
