DAMAGE to the house in Hobson Street, Failsworth
FIREFIGHTERS uncovered a cannabis farm in a Failsworth house following a fire in an upstairs bedroom yesterday morning.
Crews from Hollins, Chadderton and Phillips Park were called to the mid-terrace property in Hobson Street at 5am following reports of a fire coming out of the roof.
Officers discovered the cannabis farm in two upstairs rooms of the house and tackled the blaze which had been confined to the back bedroom and had been caused by an electrical fault.
Watch manager Tony Morgan said: "At first we were concerned that it was going to spread to the roof void, which would have made it a very different incident.
"It looked like the fire had been burning for quite a while but it was confined to the back bedroom."
There was no one at the property and the two neighbouring houses were empty.
Officers spent an hour at the scene before handing over to police who will investigate the incident further.
