Top brass and choristers summon spirit of the season for shoppers

CHRISTMAS consumers will be entertained by one of the world's best brass bands in Oldham tomorrow.

Nine-times British Champions Brighouse and Rastrick will play in Parliament Square, outside the new town hall complex, at 2pm.

They are one of nine brass bands lined up to perform during the annual Brass Monkeys event which runs from 11am to 4pm. Shoppers can also catch free performances by hip-hop inspired Band Pres Llareggub, Hyde Park Brass, Global Brass Grooves, The Oldham Band (Lees), Oldham Music Service Youth Brass Band, Friezland Brass Band and Dobcross Brass Monkeys.

The town centre chaplaincy will be carol singing outside the Spindles Town Square shopping centre throughout the day which coincides with Small Business Saturday, when people are encouraged to shop at small, local businesses.
