MOTORISTS can now park for free in Oldham town centre after the former Oldham Mumps Metrolink Park and Ride site was re-opened as a council car park.
Oldham Council confirmed that the site is currently open as a temporary free car park for non-Metrolink users.
The 254-space car park was officially closed on January 28 by Metrolink when the new two-storey facility at Regent Street opened for use by tram passengers.
Temporary
The site changes were part of a land-swap agreement between Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and Oldham Council to unlock the former park and ride site as part of a mixed-use development in the area.
A council spokesman said: "Following the land swap the car park is now the council's and is currently being used as a free temporary car park.
"Metrolink passengers should still use the Park and Ride."
