Major failings at care homes
Date published: 09 March 2017
TWO more Oldham care homes have come under fire from the Care Quality Commission watchdog which has slapped them in special measures.
In the damning reports, the CQC rated Alexandra Nursing Home and Edge Hill Rest Home as inadequate.
Leadership at both sites was criticised by inspectors who found numerous breaches of regulations relating to the safety and wellbeing of patients.
Among other CQC findings was a failure on the part of managers at Alexandra Nursing Home, in Queens Road, to complete an investigation following a coroner's report into a death at the home.
Assistant coroner for Greater Manchester North Catherine McKenna said: "There is a risk that future deaths will occur unless action is taken."
Edge Hill Rest Home was criticised for its handling of patients, under-staffing and food hygiene issues.
Prior to the inspection, the Oldham Road home had been prevented from taking in any more residents after Oldham Council imposed a temporary suspension. Now it has been warned that it could face further action.
