Diabetes on the rise in Oldham

THE number of hospital inpatients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes has risen year on year in Oldham, new stats show.
Year on year since 2013 there has been a rise in the number of patients with these types at Royal Oldham Hospital.
Of 326 beds audited in the hospital in 2013, there were no inpatients found to have Type 1 diabetes while 46 per had had Type 2 diabetes without insulin.
While there was no audit carried out in 2014, the figures were seen to have risen in 2015 to 1.4 per cent and 49.3 per cent respectively.
Based on the number of beds audited in 2016 the percentage rose again to 5.4 per cent and 60.7 per cent, according to the NHS Digital figures.
The number of residents with diabetes was shown to reflect the national picture.
