A FUNDRAISING event has been organised in memory of a four-year-old girl who died after being hit by a car.
Violet-Grace Youens died in her parents' arms in hospital on March 21 after being struck by a stolen black Ford Fiesta.
Tributes have been left at the spot in St Helens, Merseyside, where Violet-Grace and her grandmother Angela French (55) were left fighting for their lives.
Angela remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Family friend of 23 years Jody Dyson is organising an event in Failsworth to support the Youens during this difficult time.
Jody, who grew up with Violet-Grace's dad Glenn Youens said: "When I heard the tragic news about beautiful Violet-Grace I was devastated.
Support
"Glenn is a very well known and well respected member of our community and we feel that this is the least we can do to support him and his family at this very difficult time."
She added: "The money raised will be going directly to the family. At such a tragic time we don't want them to worry about having to work and how they will cover unexpected costs. The least we can do is to erase the financial cost and just let them grieve as a family.
"The community have all come together and it's amazing to see. The donations are out of this world and the words spoken are just beautiful."
Jody attended both Mather Street Primary School and Failsworth Secondary School with Glenn, whose family live in Failsworth.
Along with fellow organiser Hayley Gilman, Jody has rallied round to organise a commemorative event at the Eight Bells, in Alder Road, on May 29.
It is hoped more than 100 residents will attend the event which will feature a disco, raffle, tombola, face painting, bouncy castle and other games.
Donations will contribute to more than £18,000 already raised through a Go Fund Me page.
Jody said: "I hope the day will be beautiful - the entire day will be about Violet and celebrating her life."
Violet-Grace, a Frozen and Little Mix fan, wanted to grow up and become a doctor, nurse or school teacher.
Her mum Rebecca Youens said via Facebook: "We as a family have been blown away by the love and support you have shown Violet-Grace. She was such a beautiful child inside and out, so funny, so caring, clever and sweet.
"She loved her family, her baby brother and life itself. Her little face lit up a whole room.
"The thought I will never see her again has broken me beyond belief. She will stay in our hearts forever."
Aidan McAteer (23), from Preston, was remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on April 26 for causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and theft of a motor vehicle.
