Outcry over growing hub

RESIDENTS have criticised the construction of a 'monstrous' new growing hub in Dunwood Park which has ruined their view.
The polytunnel, which was constructed at the bottom of the park, has left the residents who live in the bungalows on the other side of the hedge on Parkside Avenue unimpressed with its overbearing nature.
While they knew Oldham Council had made plans to introduce the structure to the park, they believed it would be situated further away towards the other end.
As well as feeling it was intrusive, they also raised concerns it would de-value their properties.
Margaret Woodward (82), of Parkside Avenue, said: "When we got the letter from the council saying they were going to introduce the polytunnel, we were informed that it would be placed at the other side of the park. But they have put it right in front of our houses."
She added: "The view is ruined and you'll see the value of the houses drop."
Councillor Barbara Brownridge, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Cooperatives, said that permission for the polytunnel went ahead because they had received no feedback after they consulted with residents.
Cllr Brownridge said: "The polytunnel is part of a new growing hub in the area. Residents were consulted prior to its installation and we received no comments either in favour or against. Planning permission was therefore granted."
