LINE-UP . . . The teams of former Athletic players and TV celebrities at SportsDirect.com Park
ATHLETIC prowess and football skills were on display at the SportsDirect.com Park on Wednesday.
But it was stars of TV and stage and football legends who wowed the crowds rather than the usual Oldham Athletic team who call the stadium home. The celebrities faced Athletic legends to raise money for Once Upon A Smile and Prostate Cancer UK.
Once Upon A Smile, founded by Daniel Jillings and Danny Miller, helps families that lost a parent or child. It offers financial support and respite and is backed by a host of celebrities as well as football legends.
The celebrity team featured stars from Emmerdale and EastEnders plus X Factor stars Jack Quickenden and Anthony Quinlan.
They played against Athletic legends including Clyde Wijnhard, Richie Wellens, Paul Murray, Guy Branston and John Eyre.
Athletic won the match 7-4. The evening included half-time entertainment, raffles and a chance for youngsters to get involved as player mascots for the night.
