THEY CAME, they saw, and they left without a win to cheer, but with broad smiles on their faces anyway.

Athletic's supporters enjoyed their last-day trip to Wimbledon's Kingsmeadow ground and dressed suitably for the 450-mile round trip.

Bart Simpson, Super Mario and other colourful character all showed their true colours in cheering on John Sheridan's side, acknowledging the achievement of keeping a club up who were bottom of Sky Bet League One as recently as January.

Sheridan's task now is to try to turn the team into promotion contenders.

And who knows? Maybe next season's final trip will be an occasion to REALLY celebrate...
