A 22-year-old man was taken to hospital after a car was used as a weapon in a hit-and-run incident in Chadderton.
Officers were called to Stanley Road just after 6pm on Friday night. It is understood the man attempted to jump out of the way of the grey Volkswagen Golf, which then mounted the kerb before colliding with him.
The victim suffered severe but 'not life-threatening' leg injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
GMP are now investigating the incident and believe the car was 'deliberately' used to target the pedestrian.
The incident was initially treated as a fail to stop collision but has now been recorded as an assault.
A GMP spokesman said: "We were called at 6.10pm to Stanley Road in Chadderton to reports of a fail-to-stop collision.
"Officers have attended and established that the man had been hit by a grey Volkswagen Golf . We believe it was deliberate and an investigation is under way."
Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting log number 1734 of May 5 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
