POLICE are investigating a number of car arson attacks over the weekend.
Three cars were set ablaze in the Coppice area - two on Wilson Street and a third at an alley behind Coppice Street.
A crew from Hollins Fire Station tackled the incidents and a spokesman said: "It seems that the two cars were targeted on Wilson Street at 4.30am on Saturday morning, while the other car on Coppice Street was set alight around 10.20pm on Friday night.
"The two vehicles on Wilson Street were a VW Golf GTI and a Ford Focus. One car there was totally destroyed by fire, while we found a petrol canister on a seat inside the other car."
The car targeted near Coppice Street was a white Honda Civic.
The firefighter said police are now investigating these cases.
He added: "Car arsons were a big problem ten years ago but less so now. So these incidents seem quite unusual."
