A TEENAGER is in a serious condition in hospital after plunging from a school balcony in Ashton.
Police and emergency services were called to New Charter Academy just after 9am yesterday.
The 18-year-old sixth form student suffered head injuries during the fall, which was believed to have been from a balcony on the second floor.
He was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary by ambulance where police say his condition remains 'serious'.
It's understood a number of other pupils witnessed the incident and are being supported by the school.
Both students from the high school and sixth form could be seen leaving with parents throughout the morning, with police remaining at the scene until after lunchtime.
A spokesman for New Charter Academy said that the school is looking into the incident internally and that it was supporting Greater Manchester Police with its enquiries.
