Muslims hand £4k to appeal

OLDHAM'S Muslims have helped raise thousands of pounds for the Mayor's charity appeal.
This year Oldham Mosques Council have raised £4,635 although they have had an ongoing fundraiser since 2014. It brings their overall total to £19,691 to date.
The outgoing Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Derek Heffernan, said: "I am thrilled to accept this very generous donation by the Oldham Mosques Council.
"The members prove how much our Muslim neighbours are now part of the wonderful diverse community which is Oldham today.
"My thanks to the Mosques Council and to the members who have worked so hard to raise this money."
Council chairman Qari Abdul Shakoor said the idea was to aid voluntary work.
