Rayner gains more votes

ANGELA RAYNER . . . increased her majority.

SHADOW Education Secretary Angela Rayner comfortably held on to her seat in Ashton in the General Election.

The Labour MP increased her majority as she received 24,005 votes, with the Conservatives coming in second place with 12,710 votes.

In 2015 Ms Rayner swept to victory with a 10,756 majority in the safe Labour seat of Ashton to become Tameside's first female MP.

Upon winning the seat which cover Failsworth, Ms Rayner said: "The last two years have been quite a whirlwind for me. I have never been more proud to fight your corner. It's absolutely clear that Britain has had enough of austerity. I will continue to fight with every breath against cuts to our local services."
