PHILIP CARTER . . .died after being struck by a tram
A CHADDERTON woman cried as she appeared in court charged with murder after a man died when he was struck by a tram.
Charrissa Loren Brown-Wellington (31), of Whiteley Street, appeared for a brief hearing at Manchester and Salford magistrates court yesterday.
Wearing a red jumper and grey tracksuit bottoms, she spoke only to confirm her name and address.
Ms Brown-Wellington is accused of murdering Philip Carter (30) on Sunday.
She entered no plea and the case was adjourned to today at Manchester Crown Court.
Prosecuting, Tess Kenyon said the matter could not be dealt with by magistrates and asked for it to go to the Crown Square crown court.
Defending, James McDermott said an application for bail would be made at the crown court.
Ms Brown-Wellington was remanded in custody until today's hearing.
At 7.50pm on Sunday police were called to Victoria Station to reports that a man had been struck by a tram.
Greater Manchester Police said he was pushed from the platform in front of a moving tram.
Mr Carter is understood to have been a labourer and lived alone in north Manchester.
