A HOMEOWNER was left locked outside while a burglar stole jewellery, worth about £1,000, from their Chadderton property.
The thief got into the Bamford Street house through an open ground-floor window and was still inside when the owner returned.
It is understood the burglar was disturbed when the resident tried to unlock the front door, but escaped through the back door.
Police said: "The police attended on the night to take the report.
"The resident returned home and couldn't get into the address.
"It is believed that the offender may have left via the back door when the occupant tried her door, but couldn't gain entry as the door had been locked from the inside.
"The jewellery stolen has been estimated to be around £1,000."
Anyone with information regarding the incident at 10.56pm on Saturday, July 8, should call police on 0161 845-8825.
