Ex-masonic hall goes up for sale

THE Masonic Hall in Union Street, Oldham
A FORMER masonic hall in Oldham town centre has been put up for sale and could fetch in the region of £650,000.
The Grade II listed building in Union Street, fronted by Doric-style columns, dates back to the 1830s.
Since 1871, the purpose-built Union Club has provided a venue for local Masonic lodges, functions, conferences and wedding receptions.
Due to falling masonic membership, the stately hall was put on the market in 2002 when it was expected to sell for around £500,000.
But the luxurious five-storey building has lain empty for more than a decade.
The former Masonic hall was put up for auction in 2010 for a price of £350,000.
Oldham-based estate agents Ryder & Dutton have now put the hall back on the market for almost double the asking price at £650,000.
The 2,082-square-metre site boasts "great architectural features, original hardwood floors and incredible decor throughout", according to the agent.
Suggested uses for the venue include a night club, ballroom, wedding hall, casino, residential, offices or creative studios.
