Man and dog saved from blaze

A MAN and his dog were rescued by firefighters from a first-floor flat in Alt.
He climbed onto a windowsill when a blaze broke out in the house above a shop in Abbey Hills Road, close to Manor Road.
The man, who is said to have been intoxicated, demanded that firefighters rescued his dog before he would let them bring him down.
The fire shortly at 11.30pm on Friday and is believed to have started in a grass strimmer stored in the hall.
The man was alerted by smoke alarms and fire doors prevented the blaze, which caused minor damage, from spreading.
CHILDREN have been been blamed for setting fire to bushes and trees close to the Metrolink line.
Firefighters were called to Acre Lane, near to the Derker stop, at 2.40pm on Saturday. The blaze did not spread and tram services were not affected.
